About Unlimited
What’s the point?
Just Cause has never been a super well known franchise. While a lot of people know about it, barely anyone ever talks about it, which makes it hard to come together as a community. The games also get abandoned after at most a year after launch. This makes the community feel like the franchise is dead until the next game releases
I wanted to create a place that shows fans there are still a people that care about these games and work hard to make them better, despite the developer and publisher not supporting them anymore
History of the community
I’ve been playing Just Cause 3 since early 2016. The very first thing I saw of this franchise was a classmate showing him attach a soldier to a gas-tank and making it fly off into the sky. I had no idea what to think of it at the time, but the same day after school my neighbour also told me about the game, how you can just do anything you could think of, wingsuit around, blow up bridges…all the good stuff. A week or so later I first played it at his place and I don’t need to tell you I was instantly fascinated. I got the game a few weeks later and 100%ed it over the next month and once the DLCs came out, I got them right away and played those too
In late 2016 I saw articles about how a group of people started working on a multiplayer mod and how there was an open beta. Problem was I just missed it, so I impatiently waited for the second public beta. I also watched creators who became popular through Just Cause 3 content, like Vadact and Charley Tank who I would much later get to talk to. Once the second JC3MP beta came out I met my first big friend and we played it as much as we could. When that beta too came to an end, the full public version was next. It released in the first half of 2017 and people started creating servers. I started playing on Jman’s sandbox server, but after some annoying updates and no moderation, I later switched to Tarry’s server. And turns out my friend from the betas was a manager there. After playing there a lot and helping people, I too was made manager on the server
Towards the end of 2017, I first got interested in modding the game, all because one vehicle was missing from the spawn menu on many servers. I started off with the basic tutorials that were available at the time and after trying to make a mod way out of my league, I simply took my favourite sports-car and made it swim. I wanted to do the same for my friend’s favourite car, an offroad buggy, but for some reason it wouldn’t work and just sink anyways. I now know that’s because its suspension is incredibly messed up, but at the time I was just frustrated and went to bed for the day. The next day, still confused why it wouldn’t work, I drove it down a mountain and into the water. Then I finally noticed it. While it did sink to the ground, it could just keep going and drive under water. I just accidentally made an underwater-car
I shared that finding on the, back then, only modding server and a friend of the owner was instantly amazed by it. I was invited to a modding group with the owner and his friend and together we went on to create the project eden mod. I learned more and more about modding the game and my second mod was fixing up the unused snowmobile vehicle. Charley Tank, a back then active Just Cause youtuber even made a showcase on those mods, which made me really happy and motivated me to keep creating
During all of that, I also became tester for the Just Cause Roleplay server. I met the owner when I randomly joined the server because I was curious what it was about. At that time it was also really basic, but it quickly became one of the bigger servers and I later became a manager here as well. The server became so good that the owner now works for the company that made the multiplayer mod. I played so much on that server and met many fun people
I continued to create vehicle mods and in early 2018, I gave making a JC3MP server a try. It was nothing special for a long time, but my goal was to give people everything the game has to offer and one update after another I added more and more spawnable items and added features JC3MP offered to create fun tools for players. The Discord was originally only a community hub for JC3MP server so people could talk while the server was offline. This was before I had a host and the server could run 24/7 and I simply ran the server on my own computer. Once I figured out how to put mods on the server in late 2018, it made for another opportunity to add more fun things for players to mess with. Just like the server itself, it was not good at first, but I kept improving on it until it was working well. The Discord became more meaningful with this too since I offered support for people who had problems installing the mods. I also got a host for the server so it could run continuously. While my server gave players more and more freedom, the Discord gained a bunch of members over the years and channels for helping mod creators and discussing modding were added as well
I also started creating content on YouTube. While it was only mod showcases at the beginning, I now create videos on all kinds of interesting topics, like secrets, funny moments, tutorials and unused content and more
Something else happened at the end of 2018: Just Cause 4 released. I initially thought I would stop modding Just Cause 3 altogether, however as it became clear that not only was it a paint o mod, the game wasn’t even good, I went right back to Just Cause 3
After creating mods for a while, I was also made manager on the Just Cuse mod pages to help with moderation. For a while the site was flooded with spam, which has luckily calmed down after a while
In 2020, probably the biggest Just Cause creator ever, Vadact, asked if he could host multiplayer sessions on my server that would be made into videos for his channel. Of course I agreed and a lot of fun was had in those sessions, but ultimately he moved on from Just Cause, and so those sessions ended too
I kept getting better at making mods and learned more things, the server gained more fun features and became more refined
2022 was a big year. The previous main Just Cause Discord shut down due to inactivity of the moderators, who told everyone to move to Just Cause Unlimited. I now suddenly had the main Just Cause community on my hands. Another development began to form here. A multiplayer mod for the first Just Cause. I quickly got in talks with the creator and helped test and suggest features. The mod then released in December of the same year
In 2023, the Just Cause Reddit page faced a similar issue of being mostly abandoned by its managers. I contacted the only remaining one and offered to help manage it and they agreed. Now both the Discord and Reddit community are being actively managed. And from then it was smooth sailing pretty much. And while the community isn’t super active, I’m still happy I get to help people and show them there’s people who still care
In 2024 a bunch of advancements in modding have been made by community members and I’m happy to have met all these talented people that still spend their time on all this. The second half of 2024 came around, and the creator of Just Cause 1 Multiplayer could no longer afford to run the server for it. So of course I asked him if I could continue running it. And after some troubleshooting on Linux, it now continues to live on!
About myself
Hi there, I’m Luke JC, the guy behind all this madness
I’m just some guy who likes 80s music, big open world games and chaotic streamers
I’ve always been fascinated with mods, unused content and secrets in games. Since I first discovered there are communities around these topics I have dreamed of making videos and finding secrets in games myself, talking to the people behind my favourite game and creating a community around something I’m passionate about, far before I even knew about Just Cause. And I’m happy to say I’ve achieved all of those things
